Good News

Well anytime there is good news, bad news is inevitably nearby. So here's the bad news first. I got laid off from work a few days ago. I was kinda expecting it because of the recession, our work kept getting less and less. There had been many layoffs in the past, but my time had finally come. I worked there as an engineer for 10 years, almost 1/3rd of my life. I'll miss everyone there, miss engineering, more than I'll miss the steady reliable income. I'm not looking for another job however, I keep getting people calling me wanting me to work for them, doing various things. I have plenty of little things going on to keep the bills paid, so no worries there.
.
So that leads me to the good news. I now have a lot more time to dedicate to finishing up the site and getting it live. My day job has been both a primary source of investment to the site, as well as a roadblock eating up my time. So when the site goes live, I'll be relying on print sales and memberships to fund the advertising that will be needed to drive the people here.
.
My lack of a full-time job means a few things will change, for the better. I will run the print house that produces the artwork that is shipped to people, this is great because I want to keep the quality high. There are far too many economy printers on the net to bother trying to compete with that. With that said, I'm looking forward to getting the test site up for everyone to check it out soon.

Having been laid off in Oct 2007 from engineering myself I know what you are feeling Zee. I myself was elated. I'm sure things will be better for you. As to the site, I can't wait.

Wow, Zee. Makes for a tumultuous time, I'm sure.. but as I see by your attitude, you do realize that the door closes but a window of opportunity open ups. I am happy to find out that you will be doing printing. I imagine you will be using archival quality papers and inks. I hope you will also be offering different types of prints, including prints on high end watercolor paper, made expressly for printing, and perhaps canvas prints also? These papers are expensive but well worth it. Also, will you be offering these items framed? I know, I know.. I'm being very curious, but depending on your answers, we just may have to talk ;-)

Yeah, the prints themselves will be on archival papers using the best ink available. But we'll offer matting and framing options anywhere from medium grade to museum grade quality. And because we don't just have photos here, we have painted art as well, we'll offer different papers. Although canvas won't be an option at the start, but later. And we've already started cutting frames and mats!

I take that back. We will offer canvas printing at the start.
