Populous

Frantically looking for a guide we irrationally accepted help from a native who normally we would have run from at full speed . The first sign of a problem was his insistance that we all carry walking sticks. This would have been a sensible enough suggestion, but the trip was exclusively on a raft. His name was more of a unintelligible sound than a proper name. Within the first hour of the trip, he stumbled, fell off the raft, swam to shore and was never seen again. We eventually made it to our destination , almost a week late, completely out of provisions and considering eating one another. The only thing that stopped us was that we didn't have a wine that went with human.
