I do like the negative space and the golden hour light. The composition is really nice especially with the sand all in the direction in front of him. My only nitpick would be that his eyes look a tad blurry.. I live where it is very cold half of the year so don't have these tiny creatures around so not sure if they wiggle their eyes or not. I do, however, really appreciate seeing the texture of the grains of sand as it gives us an idea how tiny it really is. Well done!
No you're right. The dof was extremely shallow on this shot. It's hard to see through the viewfinder, but seeing the full size, you can tell the focal plane is just in front of the crab. Works ok for the sand, but he is a tad out of focus.
