We spent this past weekend at Point Beach State Forest, which is on Lake Michigan, about midway along the Wisconsin shoreline. I hadn't done anything "serious" with my camera for several weeks and I was itching to get out. The week prior, I put in almost 70hrs at work, including 3 1/2 hours on Friday, when I was actually supposed to be off. So when we arrived early Friday afternoon, I was pretty burned out and I decided to take it easy. We went for a drive, then came back, lit a campfire and relaxed. So no photography that day. I did spend some time reading my Outdoor Photographer magazine though!
On Saturday I had full intentions of spending some time hiking and otherwise milling about with the camera. At one point late in the afternoon my wife and I sat for several hours on a picnic table by the lake just talking and generally enjoying the fact that we had time with one another without interruption. It was cool and breezy and just a fantastic day. I had the camera and tripod with me so as we talked and gazed at the lake, I took some shots of this and that. Mainly cloud formations with a bit of the lake. The sky and the lake had some wonderful shades of blue and green and the clouds were the big puffy type. None of the shots I took are particularly good, mediocre at best. But at least I got to shoot a few photos.
It's just been so hard to get any time to shoot. I think about it a lot. I envision photos I want to make. But I can't do much to satisfy the desire. I probably should get in the habit of carrying it to work with me. Every so often something presents itself that I can't capture without the camera. Another day passes...
