Can the web master make the upload more user friendly?
It is not done to ask everything in an exact format, ALL other websites make automatic thumbnails etc, this website is so time consuming to upload .......
The Artalyst site is for uploading one or two pieces of art at a time. It is not for uploading all your photos and such, like flicker or facebook. The structured format is so that you can create the best possible image and presentation for your artwork. We are working to make that more streamlined, but all things take time.
One way to make it easier would be to determine the thumb and banner image size by looking at the dimensions and ppi instead of file size. Trying to tweak an image based on size is tedious as it depends on incalculable factors such as dynamic color range, compression factors, etc..
But I do agree with the work needed to post as it will reduce spam type easy uploads.
It also keeps the user base kind of "elite", by narrowing the user base to people that are willing to learn the ropes to participate. However, if you are trying to really expand the site, I could see how that might also have negative effects.
No ads here, because the site is supported by members. They make donations to keep the site running, and we give them as many nifty perks as we can think of.
For just $3 a month. You know you can pay more than that for a cup of coffee?!?!

Thumbnail creation is kind of a pain in the butt, but it really only takes about a minute.

Sadly enough it isn't rocket science.
It takes a little effort but seriously it isn't that bad...
