I need your help

Eurydice's picture

Hi

As many of you know since the last few months I have been trying to sell my photos and illustrations online at Etsy.

Well, today I got a message from a blogger than my site along with 9 others have been nominated for shop of the week. It is a contest that is all week long and the person that gets the most votes gets a blog story written up about them. If my shop
wins, I will get visitors to my shop and potentially sell my art illustrations and photographs.

This would also help Zeedaam as he is the person that does my matting and mounting, so supporting me is a support for Zee and Artalyst at the same time.

Here is the blog:

my shop is
http://etsy.com/shop/ChezEury

the list is in the upper right hand corner

Of course, you can vote for one of the other shops if you wish, but I hope you will prefer my work and give me a chance as being found on etsy, against people who have been there forever is a bit like being a needle in a haystack. This may just be my chance to finally break through and get seen.

Thanks so much,
Maggie

Hey Eury!

Some nice work there at your shop. It looks like you are in first for the voting! Hope it goes well for you. How long have you been on Etsy and how successful have you been so far? I ask because I'm considering it myself. I know a few who are on DIC that have enjoyed a reasonable number of sales on Etsy. I'm not looking to make a living, mostly to supplement my hobby.

yes, I'm ahead but the gap keeps closing since some people are on teams that have many people on them.

I've been on etsy since about the 3rd week of February. 1 had one sale that week, then nothing at alll for all of February. Then 4 sales this week, 2 of them being for 2 pieces each. One being a reservation for May as a gift, but a very nice sale. The reason is that people have been voting on the polls so visibility is key. This is why I'd like to win the shop of the week, simply to get some exposure.

It is hard to sell if nobody sees your shop. This has proven to me that being seen is the most important thing. There are a gazillion people selling on etsy. The moment you post.. 50 people have posted at the same instant. If you go looking for your item, it is already on page 5 or something. Once you get a clientele, you may get word of mouth, some admin may see your work and set it as items to watch. I know another artist has been there since July of last year, only has 3 sales.

Fortunately, it only costs 20cents to post and you can keep your stuff up for 4 months. if you sell, then you pay 3.9% or something to etsy. It's way cheaper than ebay who is now gone nuts, if you sell clothing they take 12%, video games is 8% and art is 15% I think.

I have also opened a shop on Zibbet. You can have either a free account or a special bigger account. The basic account lets you upload up to 25 items and once you sell, you can refill the empty spots. If you sell on Zibbet, they don't take a commission. I've put up 8 pieces so far, but very few views as there is quite a bit of sellers arriving to take their seat to sell, but no buyers, or not many as far as I can see. But since it is free, why not? right, they may just be the next best thing to come along, and I want to be there. They also allow you to link to your etsy, ebay or whatever account.

I say, take a try. at 20cents a pop, you can post 100 things for 20$ and if you don't sell after 4 months down the line, then you have not lost a lot of money. It can be hard on the ego though, the whole month of February, I felt like my work was crap, and nobody liked it , but I realize now that if people are given a chance to see what you do, there are people out there that will buy, tastes run a full gamut and the world is a big place, there are people out there that will buy your stuff.

Best of luck
Maggie

Hi Maggie. I voted yesterday, but wanted to say Keep up the great work. You are living the artists' dream of having other people pay you for your artwork. And thanks for using me as your printer. This helps us work all the kinks out of our print shop.

Thanks Zee,

They say do what you love and you will be successful. I'm testing that theory! :-D
