i really like this; it works on lots of levels. explain how you executed it, if you would be so kind.

I've looked at this several times since it's been uploaded and trying to make a decision not about the quality of the image as much as the message it is trying to convey.

Is this a child seeing something that is disturbing?

.. or is really about an adult that is depressed and how she feels inside... like a child, on the outside looking in but not really belonging?

As jimT says, it's troubling. You feel the child's angst as it is definitey not a happy-go-lucky picture. I just want to take the child in my arms, and comfort her.

I still don’t know if I like this image, but I do know you succeeded in getting me to take that second glance. This image is very provocative, I am left wondering if the child is looking in or looking out, is he trapped or being mistreated or just a child being inquisitive looking through an opening.

There does seem to be a sad mood to this image, very provoking.

it's very liberating to make artwork that will not compete in a contest. one can really let themselves go and experiment. my attempt was to make a "dark inner child" type of mood. everyone will take a different translation from the image. but I did it by simply taking an image and adding a soft edge mask and adjusting the levels into the extremes.
